Psychological Theory Analysis in The Virgin Suicides

In the book, The Virgin Suicides, the one of the main characters experiences Freud’s Psychoanalytical theory. Due to her sister’s suicide, she feels the need to get her mind off of the incident by having sex. This theory of Freud’s is called ” psychosexual”. This theory states” Of or relating to both psychological and sexual aspects”. She feels the urge to constantly having intercourse to fill that blank space that she is missing due to her sister’s death. Not only that but a sense of denial was portrayed. She doesn’t want to accept the fact that her sister is gone. In conclusion, both Psychosexual theory and denial are shown in the book.

Main Theme in Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Throughout the book, there are several themes. One of the main ones ,though, is drugs. The main character, 17 year old, Bree, experiences many different encounters with drugs.  She is addicted to ” Crank” ,or  methamphetamine. She is going down hill with this drug she clearly cant live without. She calls it ” the monster”. She has her good and bad times with it but up to now, her personal and social life is just shattered. Parents, school, and friends are no longer on her mind all do to ”the Monster”.
